Privacy Policy

LocalVoice is operated from New Zealand. We take your privacy seriously and handle personal information in accordance with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and the 13 Information Privacy Principles (IPPs).
What we collect
- Account details: email, display name, password (hashed), profile photo (optional).
- Your "Home Base" suburb — used only to define your neighbourhood feed radius. We never display your exact address.
- Posts, comments, reactions, and images you choose to upload.
- Basic usage data such as device type and approximate region for security and reliability.
How we use it
- To show you locally relevant discussions.
- To send service notifications (replies, reactions, local posts).
- To keep the community safe and prevent misuse.
Two-Map Architecture
Your private "Home Base" map is never shown publicly. Public "Topic Hotspot" pins are tied to the post, not your home. See How & Why.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers that host our platform (database, file storage, email delivery) under contracts that require equivalent protection.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can request access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you. You can also delete your account from your profile at any time. Email privacy@localvoice.co.nz.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
