How do I sign out?+
Open Account and tap Sign Out at the bottom of the left sidebar. On shared devices always sign out when you're finished.

Account → Settings → Danger zone → Delete account. Your profile is deactivated and your posts and comments are hidden. If you change your mind, contact us before the account is fully removed.
Your profile

Account → Settings → Profile. Edit your nickname and tick Use my nickname as my display name if you want it shown publicly.

How do I set or update my home base?+

Your Account page — a tour
What are the sections in the Account sidebar?+
Open Account. The left sidebar has eight sections, in this order:
Overview — your streak, headline stats and recent activity.
My Posts — everything you’ve posted or replied to, newest first.
Saved Items — posts you’ve bookmarked. The count next to it is how many you have saved.
Following — suburbs, areas and categories you follow. The count next to it is how many you follow.
Achievements — badges based on posts made, streak days and reactions received.
Council Letter — turn any of your posts into a formal letter to your local council.
Settings — profile, interests, date of birth, security, email, privacy, appearance and delete account.
Overview — what am I looking at?+
The four cards at the top are Posts, Replies, Reactions Received and Local Rank (your position among neighbours in your home area). Below that is your posting streak and a rolling list of your recent activity.
My Posts — can I edit or delete from here?+
Yes. Each row has the post title, status and reactions. Click the row to open the post — from there use Edit or Delete on your own content. Replies you’ve made are shown in the same list, tagged as replies.
Saved Items — how do I add or remove one?+
Tap the bookmark icon on any post to save it. It appears here immediately. Use Remove next to a saved item to unsave it — the post itself is not affected.
Following — what does it control?+
The list of suburbs, areas and categories you follow. Removing an item stops it feeding into your notifications and your Explore Discussions filters.
Achievements — how do I earn them?+
Badges unlock automatically as you use the app — posting your first topic, hitting streak milestones, and reaching reaction thresholds. Nothing to configure; keep contributing and they appear.
Council Letter — how does it work?+
Pick one of your posts and tap Generate Letter. Choose a tone (Praise, Concern or Other), preview the formatted letter, then copy the council’s email address and send it from your own inbox. Letters you’ve generated are kept in the Your letters panel below.
Notifications tab — whats in there?+
Two things:
Weekly summary email — off by default. Turn it on to get a weekly email with new posts in areas you follow, status updates on relevant topics, and your impact stats.
Push subscriptions — pick which suburbs, areas or categories send you push notifications when there’s new activity.
Settings tab — what cards are in it?+
Eight cards, top to bottom:
Profile — photo and nickname / display name.
Interests — pick from suggestions or add your own.
Date of birth — private, used only to confirm you’re 16+.
Account Security — change your password.
Email & Notifications — change the email address on the account.
Privacy — allow or block people messaging you from your posts and comments.
Appearance — light or dark mode.
Danger zone — delete your account (soft delete; profile hidden, posts and comments hidden, no one can message you).
Privacy+
Account → Settings → Privacy. When on (default), anyone signed in can tap Message from your posts, comments or profile to start a chat. When off, the Message button is hidden in those places — existing conversations continue as normal.
Appearance — how do I switch to dark mode?+
Account → Settings → Appearance. Choose light or dark; the change applies immediately across the site.
Posts & comments
How do I make a post?+
Tap New Post. Pick a category, add a title and details, optionally attach up to 5 photos, then tap Post. It appears in the neighbourhood feed straight away.
How do I edit a post I've published?+
Open the post and use the Edit action on your own post. Make your changes and save.
How do I delete a post?+
Open the post and use the Delete action on your own post. You'll be asked to confirm.
How do I add photos to a post?+
On the New Post screen tap Add Photo (up to 5 per post). You can remove any of them before posting.
How do I comment on a post?+
Open any post and scroll to Comments. Type your reply and post. You can edit or delete your own comments.
How do I react to a post or comment?+
Every post and comment has a small row of reactions — 👍 ❤️ 😂 😮 😢. Tap one to react. Tap the same reaction again to remove it. One reaction per person.
How do I save a post to read later?+
Tap the Save (bookmark) icon on the post. Your saved posts appear under Account → Saved Items.
How does the status of a post work (open, fixed, etc.)?+
Posts move through four statuses: Open, Reported, Under review and Fixed. On your own post use the Status control to update it — when you mark something Fixed you can add a resolution note and photo so neighbours see what changed.
Where do I see my own posts and replies?+
Account → My Posts lists everything you've posted or replied to, newest first.
Neighbours & following
How do I add someone as a neighbour?+
Open their profile (tap their name or avatar anywhere) and tap Add neighbour. They get a request and can accept or decline. Once accepted you'll both see each other in your Neighbours list.
How do I accept or decline a neighbour request?+
Go to Neighbours → Requests. Tap Accept or Decline on each row.
How do I remove a neighbour or cancel a request?+
Neighbours. Under the Neighbours tab tap Remove next to a person. Under Sent tap Cancel on a pending request. Neither triggers a notification.
How do I follow a suburb?+
Open a suburb or area page and tap Follow suburb. You'll get updates about new posts and status changes there. Manage what you're following under Account → Following.
Messages
How do I message someone?+
Open their profile and tap Message. Type and send. All conversations live in Messages.
How do I delete a conversation?+
Open the conversation, use the ⋯ menu → Delete chat. It's removed from your inbox only — if the other person messages you again it will reappear.
How do I block or unblock someone?+
Open a conversation with them and use the ⋯ menu → Block user. They can't message you while blocked. Return to the same conversation and choose Unblock user to reverse it.
Reporting & safety
How do I report a post?+
On any post tap the Report (flag) button. Choose a reason and add optional detail. Reports are anonymous to the poster and reviewed by our moderators.
How do I report a comment?+
Tap the Report (flag) button on the comment. Same categories as reporting a post.
What happens after I report something?+
Moderators review it against the Community Guidelines. We may remove the content, warn the user, or suspend their account. You won't be told the specific outcome, but the reported content is actioned if it breaches the rules.
Notifications
How do I change what I get notified about?+
Account → Notifications. Turn subscriptions on or off for your home base and for any suburbs you follow.
Where do I see my notifications?+
Tap the bell icon in the top bar or open Notifications. Tap any item to jump to the post, comment or message.
How do I stop LocalVoice emails?+
Use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any LocalVoice email, or remove the relevant subscription under Account → Notifications.
Privacy & data
Who can see my posts?+
Posts are visible to people in the neighbourhood you posted in. LocalVoice is intended as a public community space — don't post anything you wouldn't be happy for a neighbour to read.
Is my exact address shown?+
No. We only show your suburb. Your home base coordinates are used to calculate distances but are never displayed to other users.
